What you HAVE to know about new courses!

donnchadh

I spend a lot of time going up and down the country visiting university campuses.  I create videos for Instagram and TikTok to keep CAO applicants up to date on what is happening at universities and colleges.  One of my favourite things to do is make content about new CAO courses. I always get excited about the prospect of new courses.

New courses are generally identified by universities in collaboration with industry partners to identify new areas or gaps within different industries.  There is a big need for these graduates.

It is difficult for applicants, parents and even guidance counsellors to stay up to date with new courses, course requirements, changes to courses etc.  One of the best ways to stay up to date (besides following @leavingcertguidance) is to check in with the CAO Alert List.  The CAO Alert List shows any alerts from different higher education institutions.  These alerts could be new courses, cancelled courses, changes to course name, changes to entry requirements, additional places added to courses and even updates on QQI (PLC) applicants.

Additions of new courses don’t necessarily happen at the beginning of the academic year.  It really depends on when the course is accredited.  This accreditation can happen at any stage, so courses can enter into the CAO at any stage before the closing date of 1st July.

findmycollegecourse.ie will keep the CAO recommendations up to date to give you the up to date options and recommendations for your CAO no matter when you take the test.

One thing I have noticed with feedback from those who take the test is they say they always find a course on the recommendations list that they never knew about.

Keep yourself informed, check out the CAO Alert List, follow our Instagram page @leavingcertguidance and take the findmycollegecourse.ie today
