We are coming to the end of the Autumn open days. This is a really busy time for me because I spend a lot of time going around to the open days for social media and to post useful content for you guys.
On Saturday 7th December I will attend my last open day of 2024 in TU Dublin Grangegorman campus. This is one of my favourite campus to visit because it is so state of the art. I am always blown away by the facilities each time I go there. I love the radio and tv studios they have there, they even have a podcast studio as well. One of the last times I was there we did an Instagram live in one of their amazing culinary arts kitchens where I had to try out lots of different desserts.
I think one of the most important things a student can do when they are researching their college courses is to visit the campus. I always get a sense when I am on a campus if I could see myself there as a student or not.
In 2024 I visited UL, UCD, London School of Economics, Imperial College, King’s College London, Trinity College (x2), Universita Ca’ Foscari in Venice, ATU Galway, ATU Sligo and DCU.
Of course, when you are there, attend talks, speak with lecturers and most importantly speak with undergraduate students. The undergrads are the ones who give you a real sense of the college and even the course. The prospective students can ask them questions that they wouldn’t ask a lecturer like, what is the workload like? Is the timetable intense? What kind of assignments will I have to complete?
If you have not gone to an open day this autumn or you have decided on a college late on and missed the open day, check to see if the college is having a spring open day. Lots of colleges put on Spring Open Days before the CAO Change of Mind Facility opens in May.
If there is one piece of advice I would give to students applying for courses is to GET ON CAMPUS!
